Why Powder Coating?

Powder coating services, which began in military applications, have proven very durable for industrial use. They are solvent-free and comprised of various synthetic resins, pigments, and special additives for a high-quality surface finish. Since the early 1960s, industrial powder coating technology has developed into a viable alternative to liquid coatings by combining economic and ecological advantages.

In contrast to liquid coatings, powder coatings do not contain solvents. Powder coatings are typically applied with electrostatic spray guns or in a tribostatic process, then "melted" in an oven and chemically cross-linked at substrate temperatures of between 160 and 200°C. The resulting coating has thermosetting qualities, meaning that in contrast to thermoplastics, heat is not able to soften it after curing.

Our Powder Coating Program

H&W Global Industries expanded its finishing capabilities in 2005 with the addition of a powder coating system. The quality coverage of this system provides consistent finish characteristics, without runs or sags. Readily available resins can provide a combination of desirable characteristics, including durability, resilience, and high gloss, as well as resistance to wear, corrosion and weather. Textured finishes can even be used to hide material imperfections.

Depending on the equipment's use, polyester-based powder coatings are used for aluminum. For steel parts endangered by corrosion, a two-coat system is recommended. This is comprised of a corrosion-protecting powder primer and a polyester powder top-coat. The application of a filler for the removal of substrate defects can generally be relinquished with the use of powder coatings, and due to the high coating thickness achieved compared to liquid topcoats, coverage is significantly better. Optimal quality characteristics, and high mechanical resistance with excellent edge protection, can be realized with even a single-coat system.

Product characteristics such as high operating efficiency, environmental friendliness, and appropriate chemical and physical properties, as well as a great number of color and surface effects, are the prerequisites to meeting the growing demand for an ideal powder coating. Special products round off our multifaceted program, and include duplex coatings for heavy-duty corrosion protection; anti-graffiti, thin-film powder; and flexible powder coatings.

The powders used in our powder coating processes are always uniform. They are also free from grit and from impurities. Tests are conducted as required in each specification.
